Opportunity International’s Board of Governors is a community of supporters who want to change the world by providing the microfinance services people need to work their way out of poverty. Governors serve as ambassadors and make financial gifts ranging from $5,000 to over $1 million each year to support our work. Many Governors also make Opportunity a part of their estate plan, or support a special project or campaign with an additional gift.
As a Governor, we encourage you to:
- Serve as an ambassador of Opportunity in your community by hosting educational events and gatherings, and by speaking on Opportunity’s behalf in the local press and at community forums
- Travel on an Insight Trip
There are currently over 630 Governor families nationwide. In 2011, the Governors made personal donations to Opportunity totaling $14.2 million, or 49% of Opportunity’s private fundraising budget.
With these funds, Opportunity is able to provide much-needed financial services to millions more people around the globe. By partnering with us, you can help make a difference in the lives of millions of people throughout the developing world.
The Board of Governors offers many exciting experiences and opportunities to learn more about microfinance and the work of Opportunity.
As a Governor, you will experience:
Each Governor decides what the right level of involvement is for them. Some Governors are more active one year and less active another year–depending on what is going on in their lives at that time. There are no term limits and you do not need to make a commitment for longer than one year. You can be a Governor as long as you continue to support our work at the Governor level and continue to be involved. We think you will want to stay. Some Governors have been around for over 20 years.
