As we celebrate Easter, a season of rebirth and renewal, we are also reminded of the rebirth and recovery of our clients all over the world who are creating change in their lives and improving their futures. Meet Faustina Amoah, just one of the many Opportunity International clients who have been able to transform their lives through microfinance…
Meet Faustina Amoah

Faustina Amoah--pictured at her Kumasi stand where she sells women's shoes--has been able to transform her life through access to Opportunity Ghana's microfinance services.
Faustina is a hard-working and resourceful woman who has a business in Kumasi, Ghana selling locally-made ladies’ slippers. She is married to a commercial driver and together they have four children aged seven to 20. One of Faustina’s main goals before receiving her loan from Opportunity Ghana was to make sure that she was financially able to support all her children’s educations up through university.
Business loans can be difficult to obtain so Faustina was very excited when she received her loan of $300 from Opportunity Ghana. The amount of the loan, together with her working capital, enabled her to purchase ladies’ slippers, sandals and shoes in bulk to serve her customers before and during the 2010 Christmas season. She was so happy that she was able to purchase higher quality stock because of the loan, and this attracted more customers to her stand, enabling to grow her business. She has gone from earning around $23 a week, to earning between $33 and $40 per week today. As a result, Faustina has been able to improve her family’s living conditions, especially their diet, and she is supporting her children’s educations.
Faustina says she is happy and grateful to Opportunity Ghana for the impact the loans have made in her life. Opportunity Ghana says to the donors who helped fund Faustina’s loan, “God bless you for your gesture.”
In this season of celebrating rebirth and renewal, we are thankful for our clients who are daily examples of transformation as they work themselves out of poverty. We wish a bright and happy Easter full of renewal to all of Opportunity’s clients and supporters.
