Do you think this is an idea to change the world?
Opportunity International certainly does.
Nearly three billion people live on less than $2 a day, struggling to buy food. The overwhelming majority of these 3 billion people live in developing countries, where no social safety net exists. They need more than just a loan. They need comprehensive, transformational financial services that are easily accessible and widely available.
Opportunity International believes that building better banking tools can truly end the cycle of poverty. To make this a reality, we can’t rely on old methods.
Opportunity International is developing new products that will expand the reach of microfinance. These initiatives include new technology like biometrics, which provides a form of identification to the poor and a cheaper way for banks to record transactions. They include new delivery mechanisms like mobile bank vehicles that travel in rural areas from village to village. They include new products, like crop insurance that allows small farmers to benefit from microloans for the first time. The list goes on…
And, we aren’t the only ones thinking this way.
