Eleven years ago, Americans faced one of the biggest national tragedies of their lifetimes. We are all honoring that tragedy, as well as the sacrifices and heroism of all the victims–passengers on the hijacked flights; those in the Twin Towers and the Pentagon; and the police, firefighters and other first responders–and their families, with tributes, ceremonies and religious services.
Today, 11 years after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, people around the world are showing their respect, and we want to take note of just one of the hopeful and inspirational campaigns, called 9/11 Day. With the tagline, Good Deeds Unite Us on 9/11, it encourages people to remember the heroes of 9/11 through positive actions. In their campaign video, celebrities and other Americans pledge to take actions to carry on the feeling of community, connectedness and generosity in the country in the days, weeks and months following 9/11.
Check out the “I Will” pledge quilt, be inspired by the generosity and kind words, and consider taking your own pledge. What will you do to honor those who gave their lives 11 years ago today?
A few of our favorite 9/11 pledges:
- I will make sure my loved ones know they are loved.
- I will not talk in class all day.
- I will help my mom with the laundry.
- I will bring baked goods to my local police and fire stations in honor of those we lost that day.
- I will never stop praying to God for peace on Earth.
